Ada Matrix is a web development, design, & IT consulting firm based in Boise, Idaho. We specialize in dynamic content management, Open-Source Web-Standards-based development, and Search Engine Optimization marketing.
After taking the leap to stop working in cubicle farms for international corporations, and form this company, we have been so busy with new clients there has been little time to spend on the development of our company's home on the web. Hence, in order to have at least something up to let you know who we are and what we do, we have configured an extremely simple Joomla installation, using a standard design, chosen for it's elegance and powerful presentation logic, using the latest standards and "Web 2.0" sensibilities.
This begs the question, what is Web 2.0 anyway? According to Tim Berners-Lee, the single individual who can be most credited for the invention of the internet itself, "I think Web 2.0 is, of course, a piece of jargon, nobody even knows what it means," and we tend to agree. Unfortunately, it is a method of marketing oneself, and not much else. However, it has come to mean, for many people, a move toward universal participation on the internet, advanced applications that run in a web browser, the realization of the concept of "network as computing platform," and allowing unlimited ways of communicating on small and large scales with people all over the world. Twitter is a wonderful example of the type of site perceived to be "Web 2.0." But alas, the term falls flat with many, as the definition of it is nebulous at best.
In our own professional experience, there are a lot of web developers out there doing work ad hoc, meaning, a tacit belief that if it "works" in a browser, it must be right. Unfortunately, many developers who are working professionally, especially in rural areas, or cities without a strong IT company base, have not really moved on from the static HTML, proprietary technologies, and primitive styles of the late 1990's. This is not to say their work looks bad, nor that their sites are necessarily inelegant. The problem lies in ongoing labor costs for the site owner in making updates to content, or design. Inflexibility and inefficiency are the enemies of the modern web developer. Development that does not impose limitations on the future scalability of the resource is the ethic behind what we do, and we are in good company with the web's best proponents of web-standards and sensible design. Deveopment without borders is the rallying cry, and we are charging forthto avenge the scars of the browser wars of the 90's. Join us in the future, or meet us in the present, we will be there. If "Web 2.0" means the abandonment of inefficient methods of design and content management, and using the best available technologies to provide flexible solutions for your clients, then we are on board, no matter the jargon.
Thank you for taking the time to read this wandering introduction to Ada Matrix. We may be kind of nerdy, but when it comes down to it we are just plain folks, like you.
